For several years now the Hublot Big Bang watch line as been impressing the world. Sure the recent economic downturn has great effected Hublot marketing success, but that does not diminish power of the Big Bang watch line from a style perspective. While technically pretty simple inside given the price point, The Big Bang line always did two things very well. First, it stimulated our minds and senses by using exotic materials that we might have never seen used on a watch, or used together. As such, you have things like Kevlar, magnesium, titanium, tungsten, ceramic, gold, steel, rubber, composite resin (plastic!), and other materials that are used together in provocative ways to create some very special feeling timepieces. Thus, it was not what was going into the watch, but rather what was being put on the outside. I feel that Hublot was the first to achieve this with the level of market attention that it received. Others have since followed – and their success is a testament to the power of the concept of focusing on the outside, versus merely the inside of a watch.

Second, the Big Bang line has a great look to them. I don’t just mean that the design look good (which it does), but Hublot was able to make a timepiece fashion statement that could trick you into thinking it was not a fashion watch. It is an aggressive and uniquely functional look, but is really a fashion piece. And here I thought it was the prefect compliment to my weekend warrior outfit.

The latest Hublot Big Bang watch that epitomizes these ideals is the Hublot All Black II. The second such all black watch from the brand with some slight changes in style and a bracelet as opposed to a strap. The watch is 44.5mm wide in a sandblasted ceramic case with PVD black steel screws, composite resin, a titanium caseback, and lots of sapphire crystal. The dial again is all black in a matte finish with black nickel applied hour indexes and polished black hands. The movement again is the HUB4100 automatic mechanical chronograph movement with a tungsten rotor and black and steel all over the movement. Overall a very dynamic and style rich watch with areas of visual interest that provokes a man’s sense of “hard functionality” – looking sober and mechanical, but really warms up our passions. Price will probably be around $15,000 – $20,000. The All Black II will be a limited edition of 500 pieces.
